Project Overview
As Lead UX/UI Designer, I spearheaded the design of Remote Jobsite Controller, a platform that transforms how field teams and managers coordinate across remote construction and industrial sites. The core goal was to unify fragmented workflows into a single, mobile-first system that provides real-time visibility, centralized communication and live activity tracking. By bridging the gap between jobsite realities and management oversight, the platform significantly enhanced field efficiency, transparency and trust.
Business Impact Goals
Reduce time-to decision for managers
Decrease downtime on site due to miscommunication
Increase workers satisfaction & tool adaptation
Discovery & Research
Research Objectives
Understand field pain points for workers and supervisors
Map information gaps between office teams & field teams
Benchmark existing platforms in construction tech
Methods
12 user interview across 3 user types: field workers, site observers, project managers
Affinity mapping and workflow analysis
Competitor audit: Procore, Fieldwire, WhatsApp (yeah, that was their workaround)
Key Insights
“I need to know what’s happening now without calling five people”
Managers
“I hate logging into tools. I want 2 taps max to send info”
Field Workers
Mobile UX must work offline, auto-sync when reconnected
UX Strategy & Information Architecture
We mapped every user journey around 3 core UX pillars
Real-Time Clarity
(activity streams)
Frictionless Input
(smart defaults)
Scalable Structure
(adaptable view)
IA Highlights
Role-based access
(workers - simplified views)

Jobsites → Project → Task, Files, Activity Logs
Instant context switcher: jump from overview
Prototyping & Testing
Methods
Low-fi wireframes → mid-fi task flows → hi-fi interactive prototype
3 remote usability test sessions with each user type
Maze test for cart sort + IA validation
Results
85% task completion in under 90 seconds for core actions
+42% satisfaction score vs legacy tool (pre/post survey)
Zero drop-off in onboarding during pilot rollout
Design Decisions & Rationale
GPS-Based Activity Mapping
We avoided a one-size-fits-all interface. Instead, we designed distinct workflows for field workers, site managers, and remote observers.
Smart Defaults
Auto-fill location, pre-set task categories based on job type, reduce user input.

Progressive Disclosure
Simplified UI for workers with the ability to expand into advanced views for managers.
Outcomes & Impact
-38% reduction
in report submission time
-52% fewer
status check-in calls per manager per day
+60% weekly active users
compared to previous tool
“This finally gives me a control tower view without chasing people”
Manager
Learnings & Reflection
Designing for tough environments (e.g., gloves, noise, sun glare) changed how I thought about accessibility.
Advocating for offline UX early helped us prevent friction in deployment.
Stronger alignment with devs and PMs during IA phase reduced rework by ~30%.
Final Designs
The final solution is rugged, tailored for the realities of remote fieldwork. Designed with clarity, speed and trust, it enables efficient decision-making, streamlined workflows and seamless collaboration across roles.
Real-time GPS Tracking and Activity Monitoring
Enhance jobsite efficiency and accountability. Monitor worker locations and activities with real-time GPS tracking, ensuring projects stay on schedule and tasks are completed.
Document, Photo Sharing and Management
Centralize and streamline jobsite documentation. Easily share and manage documents and photos, ensuring all stakeholders have access to the latest information.
User and Jobsite Management
Implement role-based access control for enhanced security. Manage user permissions and roles, ensuring that only authorized personnel have access to sensitive jobsite information.
Communication and Messaging
Centralize all jobsite communication within the app. Eliminate the need for external messaging platforms and keep all conversations organized and accessible.
Document Access
Reduce delays and improve efficiency by providing workers with easy access to necessary documents. Eliminate the need for physical copies and ensure quick access to information.
